Am I the only one that feels this way? I always have high hopes of doing activities with my kids and enjoying each day, but before I know it summer is over. *sigh* Even though I feel a little sad summer vacation is coming to an end, the other part of me relates well to that commercial with the parent skipping down the isle buying school supplies as "Most wonderful time of the year" plays in the background. (video below) I love the schedule we have during the school year and I'll admit....the extra quiet I get at home.
This month I want to share a few favorites of mine. Some of these are fitness related because that's a big part of my life, and the rest are just some of my all time favorite things.
#1 -Why not start with the most delicious!!! I LOVE dark chocolate! The darker the better. I don't know what else to say about this one except...YUM! I can crack off a square for a little pick me up and I am good for the rest of the day. I didn't always love dark chocolate. It has been a gradual development over the past few years. Recently, I have cut out a lot of sugar from my diet so the extra dark is definitely sweet enough. Anything sweeter is just too much. I am always looking for a delicious chocolate. Let me know if you have one you love.
#2 - I am outside every day to run or bike. During the warm weather I tend to get headaches even if I drink a ton of water. Putting these little tablets in my water for electrolytes has been a life saver. The Camelbak brand has been my favorite, but are getting hard to find. My guess is they aren't making them any more. Sad day! There are other brands that work the same way. Nuun is one of the brands. The taste on the Nuun is not as good and they make the water fizzy. GU is the other I have tried and I like it better than the Nuun. Bottom line..adding some electolytes to my water is what I needed to keep my body going and my head from hurting. I purchase my electrolyte tablets and the running and biking stores in the area. Most sporting goods stores carry them as well.
#3 - Have any of you ever seen the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? In it, the dad uses Windex for everything. Any ailment you have, use windex. I kind of relate to that dad with mypeppermint oil. I love it! I mainly use it for aches and pains; but if I can't sleep at night I put a little on my neck and it completely relaxes me. I love the smell and cool feeling it leaves. I take any chance I can to think "hmmmm, I wonder if my peppermint would help."
(This really is a fun movie)
#4 - I'm a sucker for good books! It is my way to unwind before bed. The first book I read out of the three was These is my words - by Nancy E. Turner. I read it about 12 years ago and have re-read it several times. Even though I know what will happen I still get super emotional. There are two companion books that follow These is my words. Sarah's Quilt comes right after, and The Star Garden Follows. Each one I completely enjoyed!!
Edenbrooke- by Julianne Donaldson is another goody. A Regency romance that had our entire book club swooning for the main character Philip. We even brought pictures of what we thought he looked like and voted on the best one. I'm happy to report that my Philip was the winner. This was a good clean romance that I will let my teen read as well.
Attachments - by Rainbow Rowell is one I read a few summers back and immediately told all my friends about it. I was skeptical if I would like this book or not. Having read and started a few books by this author that I ended up not caring for, I wasn't sure if it was a mistake checking it out of the library. What a pleasant surprise to find out I loved it. I laughed out loud at some parts. It had romance, humor, and was an upbeat for me. I didn't want to put it down.)
(Each title is a link to the overview of the book if you want to read more about it)
Every time I upload another picture I am amazed by my photography skills. Ha!! Anyway, onto #5. These are the speed shorts from LuLu Lemon. I love these shorts for a few reasons. 1) I don't chaffe 2) They are super lightweight and 3) They fit great!! (This is the main reason I love them) I consider myself to have more of an athletic build with larger upper thighs and buns. (muscle of course - wink). I usually worry when I buy shorts. Are they are going to crawl funny on my legs or be too tight across the back? With these babies you get a 4 way stretch to fit everything. I never worry. They really are the best short I have ever run in. I also love the waist band being stretchy, yet not elastic. It's just a nice comfy fit. LuLu's Run Time shorts are the same great fit with the added length in the legs if you prefer a bit more coverage.
#6 - Dr. Teal's, oh how i love your salts. I don't even care what kind. They are all delicious. Part of my nightly routine, or after a harder workout, I like to soak in a nice hot bath with some of these salts. I usually keep 2-3 bags of different kinds underneath my sink so I have options. You get the healing powers of epsom salts with aromatherapy wrapped in one. It's magic. I have bought from several places but have foundWalmart to have the best prices. This is the first time any of the salts have said "for men". Not sure why so specific, but they have still worked great for me. I have never been disappointed with any of the Dr. Teals salts. Maybe a little bored when I went with the pure salts, but not disappointed.
#7 - Huge Shout out to Cuddl Duds!!! WOOT! These saved me last winter. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and my mom would get me these for Christmas. I didn't even know they still existed until last year. I happen to be walking through JC Penney with my husband and saw them displayed. Immediately I was excited and had to see what they had. I came across the flexfit and bought a bottom and top. They were wonderful for my winter activities. I wore them sledding with my kids, I wore them running underneath my running tights, I wore them on walks. You get the picture. They fit perfectly under everything. I love the thumb holes in the sleeves to keep them in place so they don't bunch. I loved them so much I went back and got a second pair.
#8 - Final favorite. White Crow T-shirts from the Buckle. I tried my first white crow shirt this year and haven't looked back. I am always looking for a t-shirt that I don't have to layer because the material is too thin, or the length is too short. It gets hot in the spring and summer - nobody wants to layer. I love that these can be super casual or dressed up a bit for date night. The material is soft and light weight making for a very comfortable shirt. I go in every so often to see the new colors and snag me one. I dub it the perfect slouchy, comfy t-shirt.
I am still on the search for a few favorites. I would love to find the perfect sports bra. One that supports, but isn't too supportive making it heavy. I would also love to find the perfect foundation for my face. Not only the perfect color to even out my skin tone (why did I cook myself in the 90's???) , but foundation that is made from healthier ingredients. If there are suggestions out there I would love to hear them!
Here's to those favorites we have that bring a little excitement to our day!
